Blending and Landscape

When I built my house a couple of years ago. I had Kehrnan Shaw of Living Environments NW review and alter the basic plan as well as develop a landscape plan for a rather small front and back yard.

There were a number of changes to the house consisting of things that really made sense (after I had a chance to think about them for a while). But the major changed consisted of opening up the living room to the back yard with the addition of a set of French doors and two adjacent windows. All of a sudden the living room expanded into the outdoors.

At first this sort of expansion felt incomplete. But as the construction of the landscape portion of the project commenced there was more of a natural flow from the inside living area to it’s exterior counter part. It literally begin to unfold in front of me.

One the biggest reasons we selected Kehrnan Shaw to do our project was his ability to integrate both the home and garden improvements into one overall project. Kehrnan designed a new entryway for our home that combined both structural and landscape elements that act as an extension of the house. He also redesigned a pool house into a guest home and studio and a garden and fountain area that flows between both buildings.

Kehrnan is unique in that he not only sees the integration between building and landscape, but that he is able to create a single integrated design for both at the same time.

I would strongly recommend Kehrnan and Living Environments for any project where more than the average creativeness is required.

Within minutes after entering my home last November, Kehrnan developed all kinds of wonderful visions for change. Ideas that enhanced the quality of the indoor space, as well as incorporating views from outdoors. Over the course of six months, Kehrnan has redesigned the bedroom area to give me better views out the windows and make better use of a chopped-up room. He has provided a new floor plan for the living room to made it seem more spacious and better used. And just recently, he designed an access (walkway, steps, bridge-like entry, door and modified door) from the house to the barn that would allow easy access into a second-floor studio while giving me something interesting to look at to boot. From the first time he walked in, he looked at everything. What can be more open, more light, better used, better flow. What is necessary? What is possible? What do I want? Kehrnan has a delightful gift that enables him to see things I could never have imagined. He's bright, interesting and fun person with whom to work. I highly recommend Kehrnan for any confusing or complicated projects you may have.

To Whom it May Concern,
       About three years ago I asked Kehrnan Shaw of Living Environments NW to help with a bathroom model. Kehrnan came up with a cast material for the sink top and shower enclosure. Together, we picked out colors for the ceiling, walls and trim that really pulled the room together. Even on a limited budget, the bathroom looks great. A year later, Kehrnan redesigned my old garage into a very open, light and functional studio that looks out into the landscape in two directions. At the present, he is working on redesigning the front landscape.
         I would recommend Kehrnan for any remodel or landscape project.
